Integration In-School classes: To be determined
The individual placement requirements will be in a constant state of change for the foreseeable future because of the spread of COVID-19. Your teacher will speak with you regarding individual requirements.
In the past
, students wishing to work with children need to have a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to the start of their placement. These can take up to 8 weeks!!!!!
Niagara Health System placements are currently on hold
Students wishing to work in the health care sector need to have the 2-step TB skin test completed.
In addition, if they wish to work in the NHS they will also need a completed CDSP form
(communicable disease surveillance program).
Cooperative education offers students the opportunity to apply and refine the skills and knowledge they have learned in the classroom. While extending their classroom learning, students earn credits, gain valuable work experience, make informed career decisions, network with potential future employers and begin training in the apprenticeable trades. Students receive extensive training in Workplace Safety and Accident Prevention in class during pre-placement and integration lessons and at the job site during their orientation. They refine their communication skills by writing cover letters, building resumes and preparing for interviews. Students learn their rights and responsibilities as co-op students under current provincial labour legislation and prepare a learning plan that guides their experiential learning experience throughout the semester.
