The Cappies (Critics and Awards Program) provides a great opportunity to combine a love of theatre with promoting excellence in student writing. Students are trained as theatre critics and organized into critics' teams. They attend plays and musicals at schools across the Niagara region, and write reviews of each show. Teacher mentors lead critic discussions and and select the most accurate and well-written reviews, which are forwarded to local newspapers for publication. At the end of the year, critics serve as award judges and vote for Cappie nominations and awards. This program is a fantastic way to combine the arts with journalism and showcase the talented writers and performers at Centennial.
