HPC3O1|Parenting
What is the hardest job you may possibly have? Being a parent! This course examines human development from conception to preschool age. Students will learn about fetal development and promoting healthy pregnancies, childbirth and recovery, and taking care of a newborn. The physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of babies and young children will be covered, with an emphasis on practical skills. Students will also study issues affecting parents such as birth defects, postpartum depression, and child abuse.
HPW3C1|Working with Infants and Young Children
This course prepares students for occupations involving children from birth to six years of age. Students will study theories about child behavior and development and have opportunities for research and observation and for practical experiences with young children. Students will become familiar with occupational opportunities and requirements related to working with infants and young children. They will also have opportunities to develop research and critical-thinking skills as they investigate and evaluate current research about early childhood education.
HSP3C1|Intro to Anthro/Psych/Sociology
If you enjoy discussing and debating past and current issues, this course is for you. Students will be introduced to theories, questions and issues relating to anthropology, psychology and sociology. Students will learn about approaches and research methods used by social scientists. They will be given opportunities to apply theories from a variety of perspectives. Logic, rhetoric, deciphering bias and robust critical thinking are just some of the skills students can expect to acquire when taking this course.

Students learn about the challenges of achieving adulthood in our society, theories surrounding mate selection, intimate relationships, and the dynamics of parent-child relationships. We will have the opportunity to discuss challenges like divorce, child abuse, and infidelity. A great choice for students who want to go to college and pursue careers in areas like education, social work, and psychology.
