ADA1O1|Drama
This course introduces students to drama through team-building, storytelling, and performance, while also exploring the world of technical theatre. Students will develop acting and stagecraft skills, including lighting, sound, stage combat, and set design, in a collaborative, inclusive environment. The course promotes confidence, communication, and respect, with a focus on stories that reflect diverse perspectives and themes of equity and social justice.
AMU1O1|Music: Instrumental
This course is open to anyone interested in learning how to play an instrument. Instruments offered include: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass, and drums. In this course, you will develop a practice routine to improve your playing, discover the musical elements, and learn how to perform in a group setting. You will play a wide variety of genres including concert music, classical, jazz, latin and funk/rock.
AMV1O1|Music: Vocal
This course offers beginner vocal students the opportunity to study, performance and rehearsal techniques. You will gain experience listening to and performing contemporary songs in choral arrangements. You will learn the elements of singing, including breath management, intonation, tone quality, and phrasing. Students learn notation, harmony, arranging, and ear training through pop, rock, R&B and jazz styles. Take vocal music and find your voice!
ATC1O1|Dance
This course is open to any student whether they have never danced before, dance in their room to their favourite songs, or have been taking classes at a studio. We explore various forms of dance including jazz, lyrical, musical theatre, tap, and Hip Hop. Students will also learn the significance of different dance forms, learn how to choreograph short dance pieces, and enhance their performance skills. Dance develops their self-confidence and enables students with a wide variety of learning styles to increase their learning potential. It assists in the development of organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills. In addition to all of that, it is FUN!!

AMG2O1|Music: Guitar
This beginner course is open to anyone interested in learning to play the guitar. No previous guitar or music experience is required. The course covers fundamentals such as warm up exercises, melodies, scales, open chords, strumming and picking techniques, rhythms, dynamics, etc. In this class you will hear and play songs in a wide variety of musical styles, including blues, pop, rock, country and jazz.

This course is for students who have taken Grade 9 Music or who have prior experience on an instrument (ex. Royal Conservatory of Music). In this class you will gain experience with various arrangements, genres, jazz and pop charts. This experienced music class is taught through a contemporary approach, emphasizing performance-based skills in an ensemble setting. Take this class if you are ready to bring your playing and instrumental skills to the next level!
AMV2O1|Music: Vocal
This vocal music class builds proficiency in elements such as rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, and tonality. The course teaches melodic, harmonic, and rhythm accuracy through singing with a large group. You will learn how to count off tempos of songs, concepts of microphone technique, styles and grooves, communication with the accompanist, and more. This course emphasizes finding the confidence to perform solo in front of an audience.
ATC2O1|Dance
Students develop more confidence as they strengthen their technique in various dance forms like jazz, lyrical, creative movement, and world dances. They learn about famous dance artists and understand how to critique dance performances. Working in small groups and as a class, they create interesting and creative dances. The dance course gives students a break in their day from their academic studies and is a great way to stay active.

Students will experience all aspects of theatre, including acting, directing, and technical theatre, as they collaboratively stage a full production. Focused on creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and building confidence, this course challenges students to take ownership of the theatre-making process. Students can also gain valuable experience taking on the coveted role of Director for various performances.
AMG3M1|Music: Guitar
This course builds upon the skills and knowledge acquired previously. New material covered includes: playing in keys with more sharps and flats, playing higher up the neck, barre chords, more complex rhythms and more advanced strumming patterns, pentatonic and blues scales in all positions, etc. Focus is placed on the development of reading skills and interpretation of lead sheets as well as performance of specific guitar parts.
AMU3M1|Music: Instrumental
In this course, you will enhance your ensemble skills, and deepen your knowledge of particular styles and repertoire. You will develop your intonation, articulation, and improvisational skills in a large band context. This course expands your awareness of melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic practices associated with various repertoire. Several performance opportunities exist throughout the semester, including roadshows, festivals, concerts and various school events.
AMV3M1|Music: Vocal
This course provides the opportunity to further develop your skills and work on common vocal challenges in a performance setting. You will learn how your voice functions, how to support your vocal health, and how to protect your voices from overuse. This course emphasizes creative thinking and collaboration within the vocal ensemble, and how to develop your own unique method of expression through singing.
ATC3M1|Dance
As students continue in senior dance, the course emphasizes the development of students’ artistry, improvisational and compositional skills, and technical proficiency in dance genres from around the world. Students have many performance opportunities and develop a deeper appreciation for the art of dance. The course gives students the opportunity to explore their voice as an artist, choreographer, and performer. Participating in classes and workshops challenge them to work outside of their comfort zone and to examine dance as an art form, as entertainment and as sport. Prerequisite: Grade 9 or 10 Dance

In Photography, students will learn how to use a digital (DSLR) camera, studio lighting and Adobe editing software such as Photoshop and Lightroom. Students will explore photographic elements of art, principles of design, composition, and explore a variety of photographic subjects such as people, food, animals, sports and cars. Emphasis will be placed on developing autonomy and pursuing personal interests to develop an individual photographic voice. No photography experience required.
ASM3M1|Media Arts Intro to Yearbook
In yearbook, students will work as a team to design, capture and create the yearbook. Students will learn basic Photography, Page Design, Marketing and Journalism. This is a team-based course where student involvement is tailored to their strengths and interests. Students are responsible to cover the events, teams, subjects and people of Centennial through photography and in written language in a way that inclusively represents the school.
Grade 12

In this course, you will continue to rehearse and perform advanced repertoire, including concert music, swing/big band music, and film scores. You will gain deeper ensemble experience and focus on group interaction, swing styles, phrasing and improvisation. Emphasis is placed on expressing your musical ideas, as well as melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic accuracy. You will also focus on preparing for an audition and creating a portfolio for post-secondary studies.
AMV4M1|Music: Vocal
This course emphasizes effective rehearsal procedures, and the independent and collective role of each vocal section (SATB). You will learn how to use the audition process to showcase your individual artistry. Additionally, you will conduct and record rehearsals of your own arrangements of pop, rock, jazz, and R&B tunes. The course focuses on preparing students for an audition and creating a portfolio of pieces for post-secondary studies in music.
ATC4M1|Dance
The senior dance course emphasizes the development of students’ technical proficiency, fluency in the language of movement in dance genres from around the world, and understanding of dance science. Students further their knowledge of the social, cultural, and historical contexts of dance; apply the creative process through the art of dance in a variety of ways; and exhibit an understanding of the purpose and possibilities of continuing engagement in the arts as a lifelong learner. This course is also a “M” level course which means it can be used as one of your top 6 marks when applying to college or university. (Bump up that average!) Prerequisite: Grade 11 Dance
