EWC4U1|Writer's Craft
This course focuses on helping students learn the art of writing and build their writing skills. Students will study examples of effective writing, use a workshop setting to create different types of writing, and learn specific techniques for various writing styles. They’ll explore ways to make their writing more compelling and will also complete a major creative project to showcase their skills. Additionally, they’ll look into options for getting published and learn about careers in writing.
IDC4U1|Interdisciplinary Studies
In this course, students will learn about human behavior, teaching, leadership, interpersonal development and communication. They will also have the opportunity to tutor students in a junior class, likely Math or English. Topics covered in this course include how students learn, leadership, literacy and numeracy strategies, issues in education, research and reflection, and of course, tutoring in a classroom three days a week!
OLC4O1|Literacy Course
This course is meant to help students learn and show the reading and writing skills needed to pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). By successfully completing this course, students will meet the literacy requirement for graduation. Students will read different types of texts, like informational, story-based, and graphic texts, and practice writing in different forms, including summaries, informational paragraphs, opinion pieces, and news reports.
ESL Courses|English as a Second Language
Placement in these courses is at the discretion of the Welcome centre and ESL itinerant teacher. Students in ESL should complete course selection with a guidance counsellor
